
Tara Byers
Family Based Training Director
Tara Byers received her Doctoral Degree in Counselor Education and Supervision from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania. She holds a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Nationally Certified Counselor and Approved Clinical Supervisor. Additionally, Tara holds a certificate in the treatment of Complex Development Trauma and is certified in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She holds two certificates in Eco-Systemic Structural Family Therapy, one as a clinician and one as a supervisor. Tara is a member of multiple professional organizations and is involved in several research initiatives working to contribute to the empirical literature on family therapy.
Tara has over 20 years of direct care, training and supervisory experience in Maryland, Pennsylvania and North Carolina. She has worked in a variety of settings with individuals having diverse backgrounds and needs. Including:
For 15 years Tara has taught a variety of counseling courses as adjunct faculty for Shippensburg University. Additionally, since 2010, she has served as teaching faculty in ESFT at the Center for Family Based Training and The Philadelphia Child and Family Therapy Training Center.
When teaching, consulting, supervising, or providing direct care – Tara strives to create a collaborative, inclusive community of relationships. She values systemic thinking, cultural humility and an orientation of staff wellness in all of her professional efforts.
Tara resides in York County with her husband, son and English Bulldog. When she is not working, she enjoys volunteering at the York County Food Bank, spending time with family, visiting the ocean and reading.
