A native Kentuckian, Dr. Nash is a medical school graduate of the University of Louisville School of Medicine, a residency and fellowship graduate of Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, and is board certified in both general psychiatry as well as child and adolescent psychiatry. He specializes in treating young adults or “transitional age youth” which is the focus of his public policy research.
In 2007, Dr. Nash created the Youth and Family Training Institute (YFTI) and still serves as its Principal Investigator. This program serves as a creative and unique infrastructure to support the appropriate and effective use of the High-Fidelity Wraparound model of care. It has been praised by the federal government, and the staff now provide technical assistance and consultation to other states, providers, and programs as they seek to implement the “Pennsylvania HFW Model.” Dr. Nash has also served as the Principal Investigator on other “System of Care” grants, receiving more than $30M in funding.
Dr. Nash has leadership expertise not only across clinical models of care but has also served as the residency director of one of the largest psychiatry training programs in the country. He is a past medical director and current board member for a mental health specific managed care company, giving him a depth and range of knowledge across healthcare systems whether community or academic. He is a resource for complex mental health cases from across the country and is known nationally for his leadership and mentoring of “clinician educators” and our future psychiatric leaders.
Dr. Nash serves as the Mental Health Clinician for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Penguins, a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, and the recipient of the 2021 APA’s Administrative Psychiatry Award.
