Lenny Woods…

Lenny began his career working in a community-based agency providing shelter and residential care for youth involved in the CYF and Juvenile Justice systems. As an outgrowth of this experience, he participated in the creation, development and implementation of the first in-home programs. These programs provided treatment to youth and their families in Allegheny County and Westmoreland County with a focus on both placement prevention as well as family reunification. From the early 1980’s until 1994 Lenny provided direct service, supervised, and directed Family Based Mental Health Services. From 1994-2021 he served as core faculty, providing training and consultation as part of the Western Psychiatric Hospital’s Family Based Mental Health Training Institute. During this time, Lenny served as the Director of Family Therapy Training at Western Psychiatric Hospital and Clinic, where he supported staff in the outpatient, inpatient and partial hospitalization programs to provide family therapy services. While at WPIC, Lenny built upon the foundations set by Carol Anderson to provide high quality training through the use of a live supervision model for training Child Psychiatry Residents, Clinical Psychology Ph.D. Interns, MSW field placement students as well as visiting Faculty from other countries.

Since July of 2021, Lenny has retired from fulltime employment at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital and currently enjoys watching his grandchildren 2 days per week. Lenny continues to provide training and consultation as a faculty member at Youth and Family Training Institute’s Family Based Training Program.
