Training
The Youth and Family Training Institute (YFTI) is responsible for training the High Fidelity Wraparound (HFW) workforce across Pennsylvania. HFW workforce members are required to attend the Five Day HFW Team Training. The focus is on learning the High Fidelity Wraparound Model, which includes:
- Theory of Change
- Ten Principles
- Four Phases
- Activities
- Workforce Roles
- Skills to Effectively Practice the Model
The training is comprised of lecture, activities, behavioral rehearsals, and assignments between training segments to promote skills that must be acquired to effectively work with families and youth.
Coaching
Youth and Family Training Institute Definition of Coaching:
An on-going, outcome-focused cognitive/behavioral approach to teach skills from the National Wraparound Initiative as adapted by the Youth and Family Training Institute through a series of ‘scaffolded’ coaching activities focused on a set of standards to be learned and practiced each having a rubric for scoring. Implementing the model to fidelity and credentialing is achieved through this process.
The Youth and Family Training Institute (YFTI) coaching system builds on an operational definition of coaching practices that are based on research in the human learning, professional development, and ‘help-giving’ fields. Our definition of coaching focuses on the relationship between coaching practices (behavioral activities) and intended consequences (fidelity to our model as measured by objective tools), as well as the processes that are used to produce desired changes. The characteristics of coaching strengthens and builds the capacity of the HFW workforce to improve existing abilities, develop new skills, and gain a deeper understanding of our High Fidelity Wraparound (HFW) Framework. The goal of coaching is the implementation of the High Fidelity Wraparound Model by a fully credentialed workforce in Pennsylvania. The coaching model reflects the same values, principles, and practices as seen in the HFW approach with youth and families.
Coaching is the hands-on process of teaching workforce to do HFW by…
- Modeling the process to fidelity.
- Practicing the process.
- Providing ongoing coaching feedback and support as they do it with youth and families.
The skill sets are what workforce do. Coaching teaches and supports workforce in developing the craft knowledge of doing those skills well.
YFTI is responsible for the oversight of coaching provided to workforce across PA. YFTI provides coaching support to agency identified coaches in achieving their skill sets with fidelity and performance standards required for their targeted focus of coaching. Achieving and maintaining quality involves an understanding that change is a learning process by which beliefs, views, skills, and capabilities evolve.
Credentialing
Credentialing the HFW workforce is recognized as a critical element of establishing and maintaining fidelity to the HFW Model and assuring the workforce is proficient in their specified roles.
The credentials are based on…
- YFTI’s Vision and Mission
- Theory of Change
- Ten Principles
- Four Phases
- Activities
The purpose of credentialing is to ensure the HFW model is implemented to fidelity and performed to Pennsylvania standards over time. A credential is defined as the required elements that are taught and collected regarding specific skill demonstration (behavioral rehearsals, documentation and video observations, and scoring tools) in the specified HFW workforce role.
The HFW roles include: Coach, Facilitator, Family Support Partner, and Youth Support Partner.
